Overview

Le Jeune Ballet du Québec, a junior ballet company, gives the opportunity to aspiring dancers who have finished their training at l'École supérieure, to live their first experience as company members in a structured and professional environment.

mission & objectives

During their experience with Le Jeune Ballet du Québec, aspiring dancers will have the unique opportunity to continue to develop their skills working with recognized chorographers as well as performing in different theaters and touring in different cities.

As there are less and less companies today able to train apprentices, The Jeune ballet du Québec serves as a precious link between professional training and future employment in a recognized dance company. The Jeune Ballet du Québec is a perfect launching pad for a serious career in dance.

history

In 1989, Madame Ludmilla Chiriaeff created the Jeune Ballet du Québec (JBQ) as a performance showcase for dancers trained at L’École supérieure and to promote classical dance outside the urban centres. The dance company’s first major tour was in 1991, with close to 90 performances from Havre-Saint-Pierre to Fermont and including several activities in dance schools. With its second tour in 1993, the Jeune Ballet du Québec was involved in the Quebec government’s stay-in-school initiative.

In 1994-1995, the Jeune Ballet du Québec’s audience numbers doubled, due mostly to the renown of then Artistic Director Louis Robitaille. From 1997 to 2009, with Artistic Director Didier Chirpaz, the Jeune Ballet du Québec increased its collaborations and exchanges with a variety of dance schools. The company toured in Canada, the United States, Costa Rica, Colombia, Peru, Chile, France and Switzerland.
