Andrew Mikhaiel

Originally from Mississauga, Canada, Andrew Mikhaiel joined Ballets Jazz Montréal as a dancer in 2017 and, thanks to his work ethic, team spirit, and dedication, he also became the company's artistic coordinator in 2020. He was recently promoted to artistic director in 2024.

Previously, he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with a major in ballet from Marymount Manhattan College under the direction of Katie Langan, where he was a member of the National Dance Education Organization (NDEO) Honour Society. Andrew has danced in works choreographed by Alexandra Damiani, Andonis Foniadakis, Anne Plamondon, Aszure Barton, Barak Marshall, Crystal Pite, Ihsan Rustem, Itzik Galili, Jo Strømgren, Juliano Nunes, Larry Keigwin, and Paul Taylor, to name a few. He participated in Springboard Danse Montréal in 2016 and is also a member of the British Association of Teachers of Dancing (B.A.T.D).

He has been a faculty member of BJM_360, NYCDA's Winter Contemporary Intensive, the Candance Competition, the Rutherford Movement Exchange, and Northern Movement, as well as a guest teacher at Steps on Broadway, the Toronto Dance Expo, and the École supérieure de ballet du Québec. While in New York, Andrew directed and organized a dance outreach program for the city's public schools, involving 240 students in grades 3 through 5. Andrew has performed, taught, and choreographed on national and international tours throughout North America, South America, Europe, and Asia. Andrew enjoys working with dancers of all ages and levels to help them strengthen their technique, deepen their artistry, and nurture their passion for dance.

As artistic manager, he supports the artistic director and the entire artistic team, while contributing to the development, planning, and organization of the company's various artistic activities, such as BJM_360, community outreach, annual auditions, Alors, On Danse, and open classes with the company.

During the fall semester, he also teaches contemporary dance classes at the École supérieure de ballet du Québec to Superior I, II, and III students.
