Lesya Samar

Lesya Samar was born in Kiev (Ukraine). As a child, she received the highest distinction for being a very talented gymnast, and then she discovered ballet and started training with Helena Godnischak. She completed her schooling at the Kiev Ballet Academy whilst training with Mr. Robert Klavin. At the age of 18, she was hired at as demi-soloist and joined the National Theatre of Ukraine Ballet company, where she performed the works of the classical repertory. In 2003, she obtained a diploma for teaching dance from the Ministry of Culture and Arts of Ukraine. Soon after she became part of the teachers’ body of l’École supérieure de ballet du Québec. Since 2004, Mrs. Samar has appeared numerous times on television (Lance et compte), on stage and on the silver screen. She has worked with Olivier Kemeid (dramaturge) and Denis Côté (film director) and played a part in the feature Elle veut le chaos (2008), which received the best director award at the Locarno Film Festival in addition to being shown at various international festivals.
