From Alma to Les Grands Ballets: Anaëlle Carette’s Journey to Success
At 13, Anaëlle Carette left Alma, in the Saguenay region, to train at the École supérieure de ballet du Québec (ESBQ) in Montréal, with one clear goal in mind: to pursue her dream of a career in dance. A few years later, diploma in hand, she took another major step by officially joining Les Grands Ballets Canadiens as an apprentice for the 2026–2027 season.
At the ESBQ, Anaëlle had several opportunities to perform with Les Grands Ballets Canadiens, as well as with Australian choreographer Stephanie Lake and Andrew Mikhaiel of BJM, who choreographed her graduating solo. These experiences helped prepare her for the demands and realities of a career in dance.
After graduating from the ESBQ in 2025, Anaëlle continued to develop her artistry with Ballet Synergie in Seul(s) comme nous. There, she took on a major challenge: stepping in for a principal dancer with only a few weeks of preparation! The experience allowed her to further develop her skills as a performer and her ability to adapt.
Throughout her training at the ESBQ, Anaëlle also benefited from scholarships from the Fondation de l’École supérieure de ballet du Québec. Made possible through the generosity of donors, these scholarships help make high-level training more accessible to students, particularly those who must leave their home region to come study in Montréal.
