Jean-Sébastien Couture Appointed Co-Executive Artistic Director of Mackinaw

The École supérieure de ballet du Québec congratulates Jean-Sébastien Couture, who is joining Mackinaw as Co-Executive Artistic Director.

A graduate of the École supérieure in 2002, he is embarking on a new chapter in a career shaped by classical, contemporary, and traditional dance.

Jean-Sébastien Couture discovered traditional dance at a young age with Les Gens de mon Pays, before pursuing formal training in dance. In 2002, he joined Les Grands Ballets Canadiens de Montréal, where he began a 20-year career and rose through the ranks to become a principal soloist. During his time with the company, he performed an extensive repertoire ranging from classical ballet to contemporary dance, working with choreographers from Quebec and around the world.

Today, his career path leads him to bring this wealth of experience to Mackinaw, a dance company based in Drummondville. In his new role, he will provide artistic leadership for the company’s productions, artistic development, training programs, and events.

This appointment brings together two worlds that have played a defining role in his career: traditional dance and classical and contemporary dance.

“I want to help bring all these dimensions together and continue developing a strong artistic identity, while opening up new avenues for traditional dance,” says Jean-Sébastien Couture.

The École supérieure extends its warmest congratulations to Jean-Sébastien on this new chapter in his career and wishes him every success in his new role at Mackinaw!
